Dirofilaria Immitis Ag Test

The Accudoctor Dirofilaria Immitis Antigen Test is capable of detecting the presence of heartworm antigens in dogs, allowing for immediate therapeutic intervention and the application of preventive measures to avoid further transmission.

Dirofilaria immitis, commonly known as heartworm, is a parasitic worm transmitted through mosquito bites. Although heartworm infections are more common in dogs, cats can also be affected. The worms inhabit the heart, lungs, and blood vessels, causing significant damage over time. Symptoms can include coughing, difficulty breathing, vomiting, weight loss, and lethargy. In some cases, heartworm infection may be asymptomatic or lead to sudden death without prior signs of illness.

Due to the serious nature of the infection, early detection of heartworm is crucial. The Accudoctor test allows for the detection of Dirofilaria immitis antigens, aiding in timely diagnosis and management.

The test is based on sandwich lateral flow immunochromatographic assay. The test device has two testing windows. Each testing window has an invisible T (test) zone and C (control) zone. When sample is applied into the sample well on the cassette, the liquid will laterally flow on the surface of the test strip. If there is enough Dirofilaria immitis antigen in the sample, a visible T line will appear in the corresponding testing window. The C line should always appear after a sample is applied, indicating a valid result. By this means, the cassette can accurately indicate the presence of Dirofilaria Immitis antigen in the sample.
